Overview

Annual continuing education lecture traditionally for pharmacists that has now been expanded to include physicians, nurses, and certified health education specialists.

Objectives
  1. Define common terms for substance use disorders.
  2. Discuss the epidemiology of the opioid epidemic.
  3. Discuss the 2016 CDC recommendations for prescribing opioids.
  4. Examine opioid discontinuation rates after initiating chronic opioid therapy.
  5. Identify best practices in counseling patients initiating opioid and continuing opioid therapy.
  6. Discuss the basis for medication assisted treatment (MAT) and how it fits into the one mode of addiction treatment.
  7. Examine the unique properties of methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone for opioid use disorder treatment.
  8. Discuss the Medication Assisted Treatment Recovery Initiative For Arkansas Rural Communities (MATRIARC).

Registration is free. However, for tracking purposes we would still like each attendee to register.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (3.25 hours), ACPE - Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (3.25 hours), ANCC - American Nurses Credentialing Center (3.25 hours), Non-Physician AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (3.25 hours)

In support of improving patient care, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

AMA Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.25  AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)

These knowledge based activities will provide pharmacists up to 3.25 contact hours or 0.325 CEU.  CE credit information, based on verification of live attendance and completion of the program evaluation, will be provided to NABP within 60 days after the activity completion.  No credit will be awarded after December 28, 2018.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

The University of Arkansas for Medical sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.25  ANCC contact hours.  Nursing contact hours will be awarded for successful completion of program components based upon documented attendance and completion of evaluation materials.

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)

Sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, a designated provider of continuing
education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health
Education Credentialing, Inc. This program is designated for Certified Health Education Specialists
(CHES) and/or Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES) to receive up to 3.00 total
Category I contact education contact hours.
