Baby Bootcamp

Objectives
  1. Describe the indications for NAS scoring and list two pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic measures for treatment.
  2. Explain the options that are available to families experiencing a fetal or neonatal loss
  3. Council families during difficult conversations
  4. Explain a minimum of two family supportive measures that may be offered to grieving families.
  5. Describe the fetal to neonatal circulatory transition
  6. List three complications that can arise from failure of a neonate to adequately transition
  7. List three interventions to provide individualized neonatal developmental care for a premature infant
  8. Implement a minimum of two individualized neonatal developmental care strategies to provide appropriate levels of light, sound, and touch for a premature infant
  9. Define and categorize neonatal sepsis
  10. List three common pathogens associated with neonatal sepsis
  11. List a minimum of four physical symptoms of neonatal sepsis
  12. Discuss two pharmacological and supportive care provided to septic neonates
  13. List two neonatal considerations in managing fluids and electrolytes
  14. Describe the factors that affect fluid homeostasis in neonates
  15. Explain the newborn clinical assessment as it relates to fluid and electrolyte status
  16. Discuss laboratory evaluation of fluid and electrolyte status
  17. Recognize alterations in electrolytes and their effect on a neonate
  18. List the signs and symptoms of hyperthermia and cold stress
  19. Describe a minimum of three preventative measures to reduce thermal stress
