Overview
Overview of Clinical Training: During this two-day clinical workshop, an overview of the ADOS-2 will be presented. On each day, the trainer will provide lecture and live modeling by administering the ADOS-2 to a child who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Workshop participants will observe the administrations and begin learning to score the instrument. There is ample time for discussion of coding and review of additional video. Information regarding reliability and validity of the ADOS-2, issues surrounding diversity, and integrating the ADOS-2 into clinical reports, as well as updates from recent research will be presented. Day one focuses on Modules three and four which are appropriate for children, adolescents, and adults who have ASD and fluent speech. Parents do not need to be involved in this assessment, but they are welcome to watch. Day two will focus on Modules one and two which are used with children who have ASD and are not yet verbal up to those who speak in phrases. For this administration, the child's parent, teacher, or caregiver will need to be present and involved in the assessment. A brief overview of the toddler module will also be provided.

Objectives
  1. Describe how the ADOS-2 targets behaviors specific to autism spectrum disorder
  2. Choose the correct ADOS-2 module based upon an individual’s level of language
  3. Identify when and how to involve parents or other adults known to the child in ADOS-2 administration
  4. Identify coding conventions of scoring the ADOS-2
  5. Identify when it is/is not appropriate to adapt the ADOS-2 for various population (e.g. older children with severe delays)
  6. Discuss how to appropriately document use of the ADOS-2 in a report
  7. Describe how to use the ADOS-2 classification system together with the DSM
  8. Explain how to continue practicing ADOS-2 coding and administration after the workshop
  9. Explain the requirements for the reliability process in using the ADOS-2 at an expert level.
