Overview

The Arkansas Forensic Nurses Association Workshop is to bring together experts in their field to advance the practice for forensic nursing care. The conference will address building a forensic nurse practice within a hospital system, legal nurse consulting, human trafficking, the prosecuting attorney aspect of a sexual assault case, lived-experience from a survivor, alternative light source and nonfatal strangulation.

ANCC Credit Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 9.75 ANCC contact hours.  Nursing contact hours will be awarded for successful completion of program components based upon documented attendance and completion of evaluation materials.


Objectives
  1. Forensic Nursing Program Development: Identify key components and strategies for developing and expanding forensic nursing programs. Evaluate successful case studies and best practices in forensic nursing program implementation.
  2. Use of Alternative Light Sources: Demonstrate the application of alternative light sources in forensic examinations. Analyze the benefits and limitations of using alternative light sources in detecting injuries and evidence.
  3. Non-Fatal Strangulation Exams in Adults and Children: Describe the physiological effects and clinical signs of non-fatal strangulation. Develop protocols for conducting thorough and sensitive non-fatal strangulation exams in both adults and children.
  4. Human Trafficking: Recognize indicators of human trafficking in clinical settings. Formulate intervention strategies and referral processes for suspected human trafficking victims.
  5. Legal Nurse Consulting: Explain the role and responsibilities of a legal nurse consultant in forensic cases. Assess the impact of legal nurse consulting on case outcomes and patient advocacy.
  6. General Organizational Business Meeting: Discuss the current state and future goals of the Arkansas Forensic Nurses Association. Engage in collaborative planning and decision-making to advance the organization’s mission and objectives.
