Credit Designation Statements

AMA Credit Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits^TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ACPE Credit Designation Statement

These knowledge-based activities will provide pharmacists up to 1 contact hours or .1 CEU.  CE credit information, based on verification of live attendance and completion of the program evaluation, will be provided to NABP within 60 days after the activity completion. 

ANCC Credit Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 ANCC contact hours.  Nursing contact hours will be awarded for successful completion of program components based upon documented attendance and completion of evaluation materials.

AAPA Credit Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 1 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

1. Explain the increased prevalence of infective endocarditis among patients who inject drugs.
2. Identify the most commonly affected heart valves in patients with IDU-IE.
3. Describe the typical clinical presentation of patients with IDU-IE as well as the recommend workup and diagnostic criteria for IDU-IE.
4. Discuss the challenges of antibiotic selection due to resistant organisms in this cohort.
5. Identify the indications for surgical management of IDU-IE.
6. Discuss the high risk of recidivism in patients with IDU-IE and its relationship with an increased risk of long-term mortality.
7. Explain the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in patients with IDU-IE to include addiction medicine specialists to improve long-term outcomes.
8. Discuss how patients with injection drug use-related infective endocarditis (IDU-IE) represent a distinct cohort which present unique challenges in medical and surgical management.
