The Arkansas Ophthalmological Society Fall Meeting is an educational activity designed to provide ophthalmologists with evidence-based updates in ophthalmology. The meeting features expert-led presentations aimed at improving clinical knowledge, competence, and patient outcomes.

AMA Credit Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


Objectives
  1. Identify key 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule changes that affect ophthalmology coding and reimbursement.
  2. Compare and apply E/M versus Eye visit codes by distinguishing documentation requirements, reimbursement impact, and major payer policy changes
  3. Evaluate and improve AI-assisted coding outputs by assessing Accuracy, Bias, and Context and using practical guidance steps to obtain reliable results and avoid common pitfalls.
  4. Recognize key retinal and uveitic conditions that influence cataract surgery planning, intraoperative strategy, and postoperative outcomes.
  5. Apply evidence-based approaches to perioperative inflammation control and retinal surveillance in complex cataract patients.
  6. Identify and manage common postoperative complications at the intersection of cataract, retina, and uveitis care, including cystoid macular edema, retinal detachment, and recurrent inflammation.
  7. Define legal blindness under Social Security criteria and identify the objective findings required to document it.
  8. ­Introduce a systems approach to the review of adverse events and unanticipated outcomes.
  9. Identify systems and human factors that contribute to patient harm.
  10. Use a systems approach to apply lessons learned from malpractice claims to risk management and patient safety strategies to prevent similar events.
  11. Review a variety of Neuro-ophthalmic disorders and red flags that may present to the cataract surgeon
  12. Learn when to put the brakes on plans for cataract surgery when Neuro-op diseases and cataracts co-exist.
  13. Discuss when Cataract Surgery can be beneficial in Neuro-ophthalmic disorders.
  14. Develop an evidence-based approach to managing progressive glaucomatous optic neuropathy despite controlled IOP.
  15. Understand the Academy’s public policy efforts at the state and federal levels to advance the profession of ophthalmology, patient care and safety.
