Overview
Learners need to be empowered with knowledge of the burden of stroke in Arkansas and the statewide collaborative approach to improvement of this burden to improve buy-in and realization of their professional role in this improvement. Learners should possess knowledge of stroke pathophysiology, stroke syndromes, and the time-sensitive nature of treatment to ensure their patients receive the proper care. Learners must possess knowledge in executing all IDHI Stroke Program protocols to facilitate a consult in a proficient and timely manner. Understanding of assessment goals for the NIHSS exam steps is important to empower the learner to adapt the exam technique to patients whose deficits are severe. Knowledge of alteplase preparation, dosing, and administration is needed as alteplase is a high-risk drug. The learner must possess knowledge in operation of telemedicine equipment in order to facilitate consults.

Objectives
  1. Recognize the importance of the IDHI Stroke Program as a solution to the heavy personal and economic burden of stroke in Arkansas.
  2. Identify the major classifications of stroke, including pathophysiology and clinical presentation.
  3. Identify workflow steps necessary to meet 60-minute door-to-needle treatment time goal.
