The 2025 Arkansas Trauma Rehabilitation Symposium is a one-day event that is held annually and curated by members of the trauma rehabilitation community and the UAMS Institute for Digital Health & Innovation Brain Injury Program.  The theme for the symposium is "Paying it Forward".

Our expected audience consists of healthcare professionals, including physicians, therapists, nurses, social workers, and case management specialists. Our goal is to unite bright minds to empower healthcare providers and improve outcomes for survivors of trauma in an environment that fosters learning, inspiration, and wonder.

There are two peer-reviewed conference submission types: Poster Presentations and an Assistive Technology Lab/ Roundtable. Of these, two to three presenters may be invited to present an oral invitation to the general audience.

  1. Assistive Technology Lab/ Roundtable [Students/ healthcare providers/ and individuals with disabilities and their families may submit]

  2. Poster: [Students may submit] Displayed on an 8’ wide x 4’ tall bulletin board. Posters will be on display during a designated 2-hour period. Presenters are required to be with their poster for the entire 2-hour block of time.

Assistive Technology Lab/Roundtable Description

Students/ Healthcare professionals/ Individuals /family members may submit an abstract for a 20-minute demonstration station or round-table discussion about impactful assistive technology. A demonstration would involve showing a technology and possible hands-on participation. A round-table discussion would involve sharing technology and generating a discussion among participants.

The Assistive Technology sessions should be interactive and not lecture-based. The best tech sessions include informal sharing, demonstration, and in some cases limited hands-on learning. AT can be high tech (mainstream or customized and typically electronic and more expensive) or low tech (typically lower cost/ modified, or customized, and non-electronic). Sessions may focus on sharing a computer/ tablet application

Each presenter station will have access to a dedicated wireless network and have an electrical outlet available. You must bring any computer/ equipment needed to share about the technology. It is recommended that you bring images or be prepared to share a video of your equipment working in the event that you have Wi-Fi challenges.

Primary Technology Topic Category

  • Technology for Independent living

  • Technology for Cognition

  • Technology for Environmental Access

  • Technology for Vision

  • Technology for Recreation

  • Other: specify

Poster Description

Poster topics can vary but should be consistent with the scope of the Arkansas Trauma Rehabilitation Symposium, including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, burns, traumatic amputations, and related conditions.

Proposal Selection Process and Timeline

Submission deadline is June 10, 2025. A minimum of two reviewers will rate posters and assistive technology abstracts with scores averaged for each proposal. The committee will review the scores and make the final selection of posters and assistive technology stations. Applicants for the oral presentations will be notified of the committee’s decision by August 10, 2025.
