Overview

The Solid Organ Transplant Symposium is a community-focused educational event designed to provide community members with a comprehensive overview of the transplant journey. Presentations by multidisciplinary team members including physicians, surgeons, transplant APRNs, pharmacists, social workers, financial coordinators, and dietitians will cover key topics such as transplant evaluation, listing, surgery, post-transplant care, lifelong medication management, and available resources. The symposium aims to increase awareness and understanding of the transplant process.

AMA Credit Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

 ANCC Credit Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.0 ANCC contact hours.  Nursing contact hours will be awarded for successful completion of program components based upon documented attendance and completion of evaluation materials.

 ACPE Credit Designation Statement

These knowledge-based activities will provide pharmacists up to 6.0 contact hours or .6 CEU.  CE credit information, based on verification of live attendance and completion of the program evaluation, will be provided to NABP within 60 days after the activity completion. 

 AAPA Credit Designation Statement

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 6.0 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

 CDR Credit Designation Statement

This activity is designated for 6.0 CDR CPEUs. Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = one CPEU).  If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours.  RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log.  Sphere and Competency selection is at the learner’s discretion.


Objectives
  1. Identify diagnoses and criteria for transplant evaluation.
  2. Describe the purpose and structure of the B-FIT clinic including referral criteria, multidisciplinary team roles, and how obesity is addressed as a barrier to transplant candidacy.
  3. Explain how transplant quality metrics and reporting influence patient outcomes and access to care, including the impact on community trust and transparency.
  4. Describe the broader public health implications of transplant quality initiatives, including equitable access, resource stewardship, and long-term patient survival within the community.
  5. Discuss the benefits of getting a kidney from a living donor vs. a deceased donor and the kidney paired donation program.
  6. Discuss living donation with those in the community and how to get a potential donor started in the application process.
  7. Utilize UAMS online resources and app introduction and demonstration.
  8. Compare and contrast the mechanism of action, monitoring parameters, and side-effect profiles of different immunosuppressants.
  9. Recommend strategies to manage adverse effects associated with immunosuppressants.
  10. Discuss the immediate post-operative and inpatient course as well as post-transplant lab work and testing schedule.
  11. Identify Post-Transplant Complications and signs of rejection, BK, CMV, etc.
  12. Identify common mental health issues for transplant candidates and recipients.
  13. Describe practical strategies to support coping and collaboration with transplant team regarding mental health factors.
