Objectives
  1. Differentiate true treatment resistance from pseudo-resistance (e.g., misdiagnosis, inadequate dose/duration, non-adherence) in pediatric patients not responding to first- or second-line medications.
  2. Apply evidence-based next-step strategies for cases where standard treatment protocols have stalled.
  3. Develop a practical approach for identifying and addressing medication non-compliance with patients and families to improve treatment follow-through.
  4. Explain the core mechanisms of exposure therapy and identify practical ways to introduce or reinforce exposure principles within brief primary care visits.
  5. Recognize common patterns of parental accommodation that maintain or worsen child anxiety, and apply strategies to help families reduce them.
  6. Integrate therapeutic interventions that emphasize problem solving.
  7. Identify common coexisting conditions in autistic youth (e.g., ADHD, anxiety, irritability/aggression, sleep disturbance) and their impact on presentation and care.
  8. Select appropriate therapeutic/behavioral interventions for autistic youth.
  9. Apply pharmacological strategies for managing coexisting conditions in autistic youth.
  10. Describe the principles of a strengths-based approach to ADHD.
  11. Identify at least three evidence-informed strategies for recognizing and fostering the strengths associated with ADHD in children and adolescents.
  12. Apply effective communication strategies to explain the strengths-based model of ADHD to patients, families, colleagues, and other audiences in a clear, accurate, and accessible manner.
  13. Describe neuroscience research that supports skills deficits, rather than poor motivation, as the primary driver of maladaptive frustration responses.
  14. Describe the core principles, key themes, and clinical practices of the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model.
  15. Summarize recent developments in pediatric clinical psychopharmacology relevant to primary care practice.
